Texas-sized ambitions met Kingspan performance at the DynaEnergetics manufacturing facility in Texas. With only a rough sketch and a six-month deadline, the team had to deliver a fully functional, welcoming campus complete with gathering spaces, administrative offices, and a commercial kitchen. Choosing Kingspan’s BENCHMARK Designwall 2000 IMPs streamlined the build and resulted in a clean, high-performing envelope with a double barrier against air and water and a high R-value to keep humid Texas air out and cool air in.
Dimension comes to life through layout, orientation and light reflection. Designwall 2000 panels were run both horizontally and vertically, giving architects the flexibility they craved for the modern design. Paired with the mix of orientations and textures, the manufacturing facility stands proud on the Texas plains – “flexible” outside and “clean” inside, just as architect E.J. Meade of Arch 11 intended.

The Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex in Joplin, Missouri, is a vibrant example of how variation in materials and finishes can bring life to a building. Spanning 37,000 square feet, the complex features state-of-the-art galleries and a 450-seat performance hall designed for a variety of events, from cinema and spoken word to opera and comedy. The design team, including DLR Group, CGA Architects, and Crossland Construction Company, crafted a space that would not only serve the community’s cultural needs but also evoke a sense of visual rhythm and movement.
For the exterior envelope, Kingspan’s IMPs played a pivotal role in achieving this dynamic aesthetic. The project incorporated two distinct types of Kingspan panels: the sleek, smooth Optimo panels and the textured, ribbed KS Micro-Rib panels. This combination created a dynamic contrast across the building’s façade, with the smoothness of the Optimo panels providing a clean, modern feel and the textured surface of the KS Micro-Rib panels introducing visual depth and movement.
The interplay of these two finishes was particularly effective in how they interacted with natural light, shifting in tone as the day progressed. By incorporating variation in texture and finish, the Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex stands as an example of how Kingspan IMPs can be used to create a façade that feels visually rich and full of rhythm.
Lines are among architecture’s most powerful tools – they guide the eye, define hierarchy and establish order. In façade design, lines evoke both precision and freedom, and IMPs provide the perfect medium to explore both.

The Gilbert Place building in downtown Blacksburg, Virginia, exemplifies how the strategic use of lines can break up mass and create a sense of visual rhythm. This six-story mixed-use building, developed by the Virginia Tech Foundation, combines office space for the university, retail and restaurant areas, and even a rooftop dining experience. Despite its size, the building’s design cleverly integrates a variety of cladding materials, including Kingspan’s BENCHMARK Designwall 2000 and 4000 IMPs, to soften the mass and blend with the surrounding architecture.
The challenge for Hanbury Architects was to make the large building feel more approachable and less imposing. To achieve this, they turned to the power of lines, especially through the use of horizontal and vertical elements. The vertical lines in the façade help emphasize the building’s height, while the horizontal lines break up the mass, giving the structure a grounded and balanced appearance. These lines guide the eye upward while simultaneously softening the building’s presence within the urban fabric of Blacksburg.
Kingspan’s KarrierPanel with QuadCore® insulation played a critical role in the success of this design strategy. The versatile KarrierPanel system not only supported a wide range of façade options but also facilitated the creation of these distinct vertical and horizontal lines across the structure. Its ability to support multiple materials, from brick to high-pressure compact panels, allowed the architects to introduce variation in the cladding, emphasizing the rhythm and cadence of the lines without disrupting the building’s overall cohesion.
In the case of Gilbert Place, Kingspan IMPs helped define a bold and sophisticated visual narrative through the careful manipulation of lines, making the large structure feel both dynamic and integrated into its surroundings.
