At Belter Tech in Atlanta, the waste foam is ingeniously repurposed through a unique partnership with Kingspan. Kevin from Belter Tech explains the innovative approach of blending Kingspan's foam waste with byproducts such as glass and plastic from landfills to create a concrete aggregate. 

This sustainable approach not only reduces the environmental impact by diverting waste but also contributes to significant carbon savings. With a reduction of 12 pounds of cement per 50-pound bag, the resulting concrete mixture is lighter, environmentally friendly, and economically advantageous.

The weight reduction is not only beneficial during transportation but also addresses practical concerns for contractors, especially in urban environments like New York. The lighter bags ease the burden on contractors' backs and facilitate more efficient construction processes. The focus on lightweight solutions is particularly advantageous for commercial builds, where maneuvering in tight spaces and elevators is a common challenge.

Belter Tech's innovative concrete blend extends beyond waste utilization. The mixture offers enhanced thermal value and superior sound quality, providing improved STC (Sound Transmission Class) values for constructed walls. The evolution from traditional concrete blocks to this advanced solution showcases the strides made in technology to address complex construction challenges.

The waste foam, shipped from Kingspan's Deland facility, undergoes a meticulous process that involves shredding, blending, and laboratory testing. This rigorous process ensures the quality and strength of the final product, aligning with both Kingspan's sustainability goals and industry standards.

Through this collaboration, Kingspan has made significant strides in its commitment to zero waste to landfill. From 3,300 tons of waste in 2020, the company has successfully reduced landfill waste by approximately 49% in 2022 to 1,600 tons. The diversion of 250 tons of foam waste through the Belter Tech partnership has been a crucial component of this achievement.
