Metal Architecture’s 39th Annual Architect’s Survey captures insights from architectural firms across the United States, highlighting how IMPs are becoming integral to modern building designs.
According to Metal Architecture, “The numbers show the largest number of respondents, 46.4% are employed at architecture firms, and from those many, 53.6% are firm owners or partners. Staff architects also had plenty to say, with 9.5% sharing their views.”
The survey reveals consistent growth in the use of metal building systems and wall panels, with projections for 2025 showing increased adoption. Notably, 62.5% of architects and firms expect to specify at least one metal wall system in their upcoming projects.
This surge in interest coincides with the growing popularity of IMPs, which combine outstanding thermal efficiency, design flexibility, and ease of installation – all key factors driving their use in large-scale projects across various sectors.
IMPs feature continuous insulation, helping buildings maintain optimal temperatures year-round, resulting in reduced energy consumption. As architects and builders seek to meet stricter energy codes and sustainability goals, IMPs have become a go-to solution, particularly for projects aiming for green certifications like LEED. In fact, the use of IMPs can significantly contribute to a building’s energy efficiency, providing a cost-effective alternative to traditional materials like tilt-up concrete, which can be less energy-efficient.
The survey highlights that with the push for sustainability in construction, 14.3% of firms currently look to metal building products for LEED certification. However, this is expected to grow as more architects embrace the sustainability benefits of IMPs.
